Head Injuries:

This page is intended as a patient/relative information source only. It is not a substitute for professional medical advice.

Types of Head Injury:

There are many different types of head injury; some very minor and some very serious. Many patients who have head injuries never see a neurosurgeon and are safely observed in other hospitals or even at home.

Some of the head injuries commonly looked after by neurosurgeons are listed below. Please click one of the links for further information:

Head Injury Clinical Nurse Specialist:

We have a specialist head injury service based at the Centre for Neurosciences at the Leeds General Infirmary, which is committed to providing comprehensive care and support to all patients and their families who have sustained a traumatic brain injury.

The Head Injury Nurse Specialist, Derrien Guest (Dez), meets all patients and their families following admission to Leeds General Infirmary.  Derrien can provide much needed support and reduce anxiety by explaining the nature of the injuries, discussing potential behavioural changes which are common following a head injury.

Derrien works closely with all members of the multi- disciplinary team (including Doctors, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists) to ensure there is a planned care pathway and discharge arrangements for each individual patient, to help ensure there is clear understanding of what you can expect both now and in the future.

If you would like any more information, please do not hesitate to contact Derrien Guest (Dez):
